Either geting to know your grower and/or getting to grow your own brain plants is going to be the way to insure that your own personal food supply is safe.

Those are really the only way to avoid pesticides, additives, gene mods and be sure you are eating a species of berry that has the nutients you want and not some Franken-berry that was gene modified to never spoil (and be inadvertently indigestible or release toxins in your system)

In brain gardening recommendations,we have chosen very low maintenance bushes and plants that require little time once established. (I am a lazy person and appreciate that it others)

NOTE: Some people with ADHD, autism, or sensory processing problems may have Salicylate sensitivities, (berries have these!) However people with ADHD, autism and sensory processing are certainly already reacting to fruits due to due to pesticides, sulfites, GMO genes(many fruits have pesticides that can't be washed off- these pesticides are released when warm- guess what's warm- your intestine) food additives, if stored in unsafe plastic containers-(fruit cups)- fruits may have absorbed benzene or other posionsand when you react to fruits, you may just be reacting to the toxin. Still other people find they can eat fruit, but cannot eat fruit within a couple of hours of eating carbs or protein. (Especially production wheat or dairy.) Diet is a complex tapestry.

Personally I would not begin by eliminating salicylates. It is probably most helpful to stop ingesting the proven brain toxins and worst offenders first: neurotoxins like MSG neurotoxin**** and aspartame and (MIT) in shampoo and soap which are all proven to cause neurological damage and in almost every shampoo for kids and adults alike. http://www.purezing.com/living/toxins/living_toxins_dangerousingredients.html Shampoo, a neurotoxic biocide for mammals who would have guessed??????…

(cow's out of the barn, eh? Gee, I wonder if it was a good idea to release biotoxins into every home in America… I wonder how many pregnant women in this country used shampoo?) And check out those household chemical labels too http://tuberose.com/Healthy_Home.html

Then go on to eliminate artificial colors, pesticides, food additives, and Gene modified foods. (this means a HUGE change from any processed typical grocery store foods, but if you want your life back it will happen eventually.)

Next I would get tested for heavy metals, toxins and any nutrient deficiencies. Correct those and if you are still having problems then move on to test the substances like production corn, wheat, low heat oils, and dairy which cause problems for about half of the people and salicylates if these seem like issues for you. The only way I have found that works is by using a systematic elimination diet and food diary. It is annoying, so I use it for a stretch and learn what I can't eat and then go back to whole unprocessed foods and high heat oils like safflower, peanut or olive.

If you do have an attention or memory problem like ADHD remember to maximize attention and learning neurotransmitters by eating breakfast and lunch meals of mostly protein (or at least 4 times more protein than carbs) Eat your carbs in the evening or after 3pm when the bulk of your neurotransmitters for the day are altready produced. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FKA/is_9_61/ai_59538625 http://www.feingold.org/Research/pst.html

I heartily recommend some brain gardening as it is low work,a lot of fun and has big rewards at harvest time, We enjoy eating jams and jellies year round and with the elimnation diets, illness recovery and research taking so much time and feeling overwhelming, gardening turns out to be an energizing bright spot of joy.

Brain Gardening: It's Personal

In the case of nutrition,

What you don't know and what you don't grow can most certainly hurt you; and hurt you badly.

With the approval of the FDA, there is a deluge of neurotoxins swarming in our lives and a corresponding epidemic of central nervous system disorders. Please don't let your brain get swept into this dust bin.
